Kaduna

On Sunday, we decided to stay another night and check out some more of the area. We ended up going for a hike to the top of Kajuma rock. In Kaduna, and most of Nigeria, they have huge rock outcroppings instead of mountains. Its quite something, I've never seen a landscape like it. Once we reached the top we were surprised to see lots of names and designs spelled out with different size rocks. The kids and I decided to do the same. They spelt there names, and I decided to built a rock monument.

Later on, we went to a pottery village that my mother and father use to go to all the time when we were living here in 1990. I was about 8 weeks old. The man who owns it use to teach my mother pottery and my father Hausa. Hausa is one of the more common languages found in Nigeria. Afterwards, we had some relaxation on the patio and a dip in the pool. Just when the sun was going down, hundreds of huge fruit bats filled the sky before taking off into the night. We then joined our driver and friend, Salisu, for huge lebanese dinner.

  1. I was poking around, gathering some info for a presentation I am doing at my daughter's school about the time I spent living in Kaduna, Nigeria as a child and that's how I found your blog.
Turns out we lived there at the same time, but I was 9 years old and you were a baby :)
Thanks for the great images, the bat image is perfect for showing the kids.
